Yo Yo Crazy!!

Check out the super cool plates recently given to me- Thanks Lisa and Stuart!!!

I've always loved looking at the netting and tulle in fabric shops, they evoke visions of fun costumes, pretty ballerinas, princess curtains... but being a quilter I soon walk by and head for the down to earth cottons.
That was until a week ago, when I came up with the perfect excuse to fill my trolley with wonderful fluro netting.
To make Yo Yos!!

I made a few with just netting...

and then I wanted to see how I could play with the transparency of the netting.
I stuffed the puff with a different colour netting

I then tried sewing netting over fabrics..

Some I liked...

I'm not sure about these ones with metalic fabric..

My favourites are these ones I made with flocked netting, but then I do have a thing for spots...

These netting YoYos are still at the experimental phase but I'm really like the effect. They have a fun, ethereal, floaty quality about them.

Hee hee...I kept joking about making a YoYo as big as my head... so I did...

A fun garden decoration...

Wow! I've never seen so much innovation with yo-yo's. Your netting with the dots, your layers of prints and netting, just wonderful. They are their own little creatures, dancing and playing, almost like jelly fish. Really fun!

I love them all!! Your garden yo yo is sure to draw the birds and bees!

Love those dots!!! And netting is just perfect for the garden--as long as no critters decide to do any redecorating. The giant yo you would make great outdoor party decor too, hanging from eaves and from tree branches. Fun!

These are such fun. Another great idea for embellishments, they would add such interesting texture.

I dont think Ive ever seen tulle yoyos before. They look utterly delightful.

Exactly what are you going to do with the gigantic one? (which had me laughing my head off by the way!)

What a fun idea - can see you enjoyed yourself there! They could be quite pretty appliqued as flowers on a bright quilt couldn't they? Look forward to seeing your yoyo quilt.

Thanks for the magazine win - I don't have a blog, but here is a link to one of my flickr photos you might be interested in. My quilt group has a monthly bee, and this month the organiser asked for 'trees please', any type of tree block using a lovely echino fabric she supplied. I made a large yo-yo for the tree, but not as large as your garden decoration!

Of course - I forgot the link.

Some of these remind me of shower caps! I'm not a fan of the metallic fabric (for anything!), but I love the fabric and net yoyo's. I have a yoyo template thingy somewhere...
